Choosing The Right Pair Of Wine And Cheese

Wine and cheese parties from the seventies are returning. They are easy to set up. You don?t need a reason for the party. They can be brought together at any time, no matter the weather and there is nothing like the pairing of cheese with wine.

Most people can get overwhelmed. To begin with there are a wide range of choices in wines and cheese. Then there is figuring out what wine goes with what cheese.

The first thing to remember when you set about buying your supplies is never by cheap boxed wine. It may be easy to open but the flavors of cheese or any other food cannot be brought out with cheap wine.

Remember strong wines go with strong cheese and mild cheeses go with mild wine. Neither drink nor food must dominate. The flavor of each bite of cheese on your palette is replaced with a sip of the wine.

Wines that are acidic complement pungent cheese such as Chardonnay with Brie or a Savignon Blanc with goat cheese.A soft cheese like Camembert goes well with sweet wines like Vouvray or Chenin Blanc. And hard cheeses like Parmegiano, Romana or Regiano are wonderfully matched to full bodied red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Red Zinfandel and Red Bordeaux.Sweet wines like Vermouth , Port or Sherry may be combined with the a the well known, much loved cheddar cheese. If the cheddar is aged then its sharp taste compliments an equally tangy glass of Shiraz Cabernet.

Remember, that the best guide of what cheese and wine combinations to go for, you should rely on your tastes. If it seems to work together then serve them together. Don?t worry about the errors you make, they will only help improve your abilities in the long run.

Sweet Wine For Your Reading Pleasure

Wine Cellars

For wine lovers, nothing beats nicely arranged wine bottles and elegant-looking wine cellars to get them in the mood for drinking wine.

According to recent studies, those that are serious wine drinkers belong to the baby boomer generation. It is interesting to note that the children of baby boomers, who are 20 years old and older, are also wine drinkers and choose premium wines.

Wines should be stored in the best possible conditions that will allow the wines to age slowly and develop more complexly. It is important to know how to make your own wine cellar. Wines should be stored at the right temperature until such time that you are ready to drink them.

Wines should be stored inside an insulated cupboard, under the stairs, in a closet or in a cabinet where temperature can be controlled. A cellar should have the proper insulation, with a vapor barrier, wall lining, doors, windows and lighting.

It is also important to choose the best type of wine racks for your wine collection. Know the secrets to storing wine to preserve your valuable wine collection. Determine the types of racks you want - whether single bottle racks or diamond cubes. Please note that wine cellars with undivided diamond cubes are not recommended in areas that are earthquake-prone. Find out which cooling system is best for your wine cellar, and find out which types of wines have the best cellaring potential. It is also important to be aware of the stages a wine goes through while it ages inside the bottle.

You should know the process involved in aging wines, and what happens when wine undergoes too much change in temperature. There is an ideal temperature for serving wine for various grape varieties. Avoid hiding the wine?s true character.

Another important consideration is knowing how humidity plays a role in the storage of wine, and how to increase humidity in the wine cellar. You should also know that wines age best. Keep these guidelines in mind to preserve your cherished possessions ? your wine collection.

I can’t think of a better blend of high and low culinary cultures (haute and “not”) than this late spring, warm and fragrantly nutty vegetable dish. Nor a better way to embrace Earth Day. Happy “green” eating, everyone. With maybe a little orange on the side. I took another “Wildman” Steve Brill tour of Prospect Park last Saturday. For those unfamiliar with this particular New York legend, Brill regularly hosts ecology and wild edibles tours of public parks throughout the tri-state area. I

April 2008 - Wine Tour

A Wine Tour Artilce for Your Viewing

Custom Wine Labels

Wine producers and distillers are proud of their product. It is this sense of pride and the hard work and quality of attention they put into their product that makes custom wine labels important to them. Wines are judged not just by the year the grapes used to produce them were harvested, or in what country they come from. Wine connoisseurs look at the vineyard and the quality of grape vine too. These details are found on the wine bottle label.

Traditionally, all wine bottles look the same and are labeled quite the same as well. To those inexperienced at buying wines, the many different varieties of wine on the shelves go unnoticed because they tend to buy their favorite brands.

In today?s globalized economy where products, including wines from all over the world, find their way into local supermarkets, competition has gotten edgier. If you are a wine producer, you need to step up on your marketing strategy. If you cannot modify the look of your glass bottle, as it is harder and more costly to do, you can modify your label. Generic bottles, what glass-packaging manufacturers call them, are mass-produced and are used by a variety of customers that extend beyond wine producers. For example, generic looking wine bottles are used to package olive oil, balsamic vinegar and other premium food ingredients. The trick in making these bottles look different from each other is in the labeling.

There are many labels available for clients who need to identify wine bottles. They include the usual paper labels in a two color-printing scheme, the glossy labels in four colors and shrink-wrapped labeling.

In the world of marketing, products are judged according to their packaging and labels. A customer?s impression of the product starts from how the product is presented on the shelf. An attractive label can often spell success for the product. There are many packaging companies and print houses with designers that offer custom-made wine labels. Check them out and compare prices as well as the scope of services they are willing to give.

Seven Stones is ready to rock

I spent this morning with a new Napa Valley producer you have not likely heard about. The winery is called Seven Stones and is owned by Ron and Anita Wornick. I was met at the impressively sited winery (tucked in the hills of the Meadowood Resort) by Ron along with his winemaking team of Aaron Pott and Roy Piper. Wornick has an interesting background as an influential food scientist whose company was selected by the US military to produce the MRE (meals, ready to eat) that revolutionized food

Random Bullets of Eco Smugness Mr E Man and I spent a couple of hours at a sustainable living expo yesterday. It was my first time at a non-scientific tradeshow, and Mr E Man's first tradeshow ever (unless you count the time he tagged along on a work trip and helped my colleague and me to assemble our booth after we'd all been on a brewery tour, complete with men in kilts). The expo was great, definitely worth the $9 entry fee. We spent the first hour seeking out specific vendors, then I b

Last day in Vancouver & first day of travel (Days 108 - 109)

My last day in Vancouver was spent doing last minute packing for the stuff I’ll be bringing along on my trip… then went for a Macdonald’s dinner with a roommate… returned my keys and said goodbye to the roommates. Then went on my way to the airport. I was booked on a WestJet flight to Toronto. The security procedures were rather strict – I even had my laptop swiped with a swab and tested on the spot for explosive particles. The flight was delayed slightly as for some reason a passenger had to

However, he was up a little past his bed time, and after a full day of work Friday, needed a quick power nap before heading out to dinner and the movies. While most safari operators wimp out in heavily armored 4×4’s, Steve does a lot of his tours au naturelle. That is to say, he’s not naked, but just happens to like walking in the wild.
